GE Dishwasher H20 / H2O Error (Not Enough Water)

Quick answer: GE says H20 means the dishwasher isn’t getting enough water, or none, during the timed fill. Open the hot-water valve under the sink fully, make sure the inlet hose isn’t kinked and the dishwasher is level, then select another cycle option and back again to clear the code.

GE says this commonly happens on first use, right after plumbing work, or after the supply was turned off. If H2O appears only during the 1-Hour Wash cycle, GE says to schedule service.

Test order: easiest & free first

  1. Open the hot-water valve fullyFREE · 2 min
Under the sink nearest the dishwasher. GE says it is likely the supply hasn’t been turned completely ON.
  2. Check the inlet hoseFREE · 5 min
Make sure it isn’t kinked (GE).
  3. Level the dishwasherFREE · 10 min
GE: a tilted unit can make the water level look low in parts of the tub.
  4. Clear the codeFREE · 1 min
Select another cycle option, then return to your setting (GE).
  5. Check house water pressureFREE · 5 min
If other fixtures are weak, fix the supply first. GE recommends service only after supply/pressure, valve and level are confirmed.
  6. Water inlet valveMULTIMETER
Behind the lower access panel with two wires. PartSelect says to verify supply pressure first, then inspect the valve.
  7. Float and float switchINSPECT
PartSelect: lift and drop the float; it must move freely. A faulty float or switch can stop filling.
⚠ Safety: Turn off power at the breaker and shut off the water before removing the lower access panel. Have towels ready for spills.
