Ants in the Kitchen

Quick answer: Most ants live outdoors, so focus on keeping them out: clean up crumbs and spills, store food in sealed containers, caulk entry points, and use baits when needed. UC IPM notes that spraying ants indoors will not keep more ants from coming in.
⚠ Safety first:
- Try non-chemical steps first: remove food, water and shelter and seal entry points (EPA IPM; UC IPM).
- If you use a pesticide, read and follow the label; the label is the law (EPA). Never use products labeled for outdoor use indoors.
- Keep kids and pets away from treated areas and baits; store pesticides in their original containers, up high and locked (EPA).
- Poison emergency: call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 (U.S.).
