Samsung Washer 4C Error Code (also 4E & nF)

Quick answer: 4C, 4E and nF all mean the washer isn't detecting enough water coming in — most often a closed valve, kinked hose or clogged inlet screen, and less often a failed water inlet valve or control board.

4E is the older display version; nF / 4C appear on newer models. Work through the steps in order — the free checks come first.

Test order: easiest & free first

  1. Check both supply valves are fully openFREE · 1 min
Turn the hot and cold taps behind the washer fully counter-clockwise. If you have "flood-safe" hoses, they may have tripped shut — reset or replace them. In cold weather, check for frozen lines.
  2. Look for a kinked or crushed fill hoseFREE · 2 min
Pull the washer out and straighten the hoses. A hose pinched against the wall can restrict flow, especially after the washer has been moved.
  3. Clean the inlet filter screensFREE · 10 min
Turn the water off, unscrew the hoses at the washer and pull out the small mesh screens in the valve ports (needle-nose pliers). Rinse out sediment and reinstall.
  4. Rule out low water pressureFREE · 5 min
Run each hose into a bucket. Weak flow means a house supply problem (other faucets slow too?), not the washer.
  5. Check the valve wiring & test the water inlet valveMULTIMETER
Unplug the washer. Remove the top/back panel, reseat the harness on the valve, then set a multimeter to ohms and measure across each solenoid coil's terminals. Coils on the same valve should read about the same. Public repair guides (iFixit, AppliancePartsPros) cite a typical range of roughly 500–1,500 Ω; a reading of OL (open) or ~0 Ω means the valve is bad. Check your model's tech sheet for the exact spec.
  6. Replace the water inlet valvePART · ~$40–140
Part name: Water Inlet Valve / Cold Water Inlet Valve (single or dual-solenoid depending on model). See part numbers below.
  7. Last resort: control board (PCB)PART · $$$
If the valve tests good but receives no 120 V during fill, the main control board (PCB) isn't driving it. This live-voltage test is dangerous — consider a technician. Also inspect the pressure-sensor hose for clogs or holes; a faulty water level (pressure) sensor can trigger 4C even with good flow.
⚠ Safety: Unplug the washer and shut off both water taps before removing panels or hoses. Only do live-voltage tests if you're trained — 120 V can kill.

Samsung uses many different valves across models. Always look up by your model number or match the number printed on your old valve.

💡 Find your model number: Check the sticker inside the door frame or on the back of the lid (top-load), or on the back panel. It looks like WF45T6000AW/A5 — include the suffix after the slash when searching parts.
